Windows Defender Coming To The Mac
Microsoft has announced they're bringing their popular Windows Defender software to the Mac as part of their Microsoft 365 software suite.
Microsoft is also rebranding the popular antivirus software to be called "Microsoft Defender Advances Threat Protection" which is a mouthful but in the end, should be the same software we already know on the Windows platform.
The reason Microsoft is working to bring Defender to the Mac is for enterprise customers. This will allow businesses which are running both Mac and PC with the Microsoft 365 service to use the same virus protection software, something previously unavailable to network administrators.
“For us, it’s all about experiences that follow the person and help the individual be more productive,” Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s corporate VP for Office and Windows, told me. “Just like we did with Office back in the day — that was a big move for us to move it off of Windows-only — but it was absolutely the right thing. So that’s where we’re headed.”
