Ford Announces Plans For An Electric F-150 Pickup Truck
Ford has made a big announcement this past week in regards to the future of their F-Series trucks stating there will soon be electric versions of their highly popular pickups.
Ford's President of Global Markets announced the addition of the electric trucks at a press conference held at their Detroit offices. Along with pure electric versions of their F-series trucks, Ford plans on releasing hybrid versions of the pickup trucks.
Ford is working to offer 40 electrified vehicles by 2022. Currently, they have a Mustang inspired electric crossover vehicles coming to market next year developed by their Edison group.
Ford isn't the only vehicle manufacturer working on an electric pickup. Elon Musk has announced that Tesla is working on an all-electric pickup truck which will be announced in the next few years. Rivian is another electric vehicle maker which came onto the scene this past year and plans to develop an all-electric SUV and Pickup Truck which will go on sale sometime in the 2020s.
Overall it will be interesting to see how well Ford does in the electric vehicle market especially when it comes to their pickup trucks. Last year along Ford sold over 1 million F-series trucks, but those were either gas or diesel. It will be interesting to see if the same people interested in buying gasoline or diesel truck are also interested in an electric version.
