Facebook Employees Caught Posting 5 Star Reviews For Portal on Amazon
When originally announced the Facebook Portal seemed like a strange product for Facebook to announce, at possibly the worst time as the company was under scrutiny for its security practices.
Now after the initial launch it appears some Facebook employees were looking to juice the numbers on Amazons review platform as a number of employees were caught leaving five-star reviews for the Facebook Portal on Amazon.
Tech Columnist Kevin Roose caught it all:
Speaking of coordinated inauthentic behavior, what are the odds that all these 5-star Facebook Portal reviewers on Amazon just happen to have the same names as Facebook employees? pic.twitter.com/bF7U8Fj5kN— Kevin Roose (@kevinroose) January 17, 2019
Facebook soon after releasing a statement that they didn't encourage this behaviour and would ask those employees in question to remove the reviews from Amazon.
Reviews of this kind are against Amazon's terms and conditions which state:
"In order to preserve the integrity of Community content, content and activities consisting of advertising, promotion, or solicitation (whether direct or indirect) is not allowed, including: Creating, modifying, or posting content regarding your (your relatives, close friends, business associates, or employers) products or services." - Amazon Community Guidelines
