Elon Musk's Boring Company to Build Tunnel Under Las Vegas
The Boring Company may have just secured another large tunnelling project this time under the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has recommended selecting The Boring Company to build and operate a new "people mover" under the Las Vegas Convention Center. This new people mover should be completed in time for the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show in January 2021.
This would be a large scale version of The Boring Companies test tunnel built near the SpaceX headquarters in California. Its unclear what vehicles would be used in this future tunnel. The Boring Company could use Tesla vehicles, but it's expected the new 16 person tram which has been in development could be used for this project.
According to The Boring Company president Steve Davis, this project could be done in a year. Leaving The Boring Company with time to properly test the system before opening it to the public and before its use during the 2021 CES.
Overall the project is expected to cost between $20 and $55 million, and according to the LVCVA, The Boring Companies proposal was considerably cheaper than other options available.
In the future, if construction and operation of the people mover goes well, the system could be expanded to connect to many hotels on the strip along with the international airport allowing guests a quick and easy form of transportation along the strip and to and from the airport.
