Cortana Is No Longer Competing Against Alexa Or Google Assistant

During a press event this week Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that Microsoft no longer sees their Cortana assistant as a competitor to Amazon's Alexa or the Google Assistant.

In a statement from The Verge Nadella said:

“Cortana needs to be that skill for anybody who’s a Microsoft 365 subscriber ... You should be able to use it on Google Assistant; you should be able to use it on Alexa, just like how you use our apps on Android and iOS so that’s at least how we want to think about where it’ll go.”

Cortana is currently already available as an Alexa skill which can be activated allowing users of Microsofts 365 suite of applications to perform specific tasks with Cortana. No word on if or when Cortana will be integrated to work alongside the Google Assistant.

This isn't the end for Cortana though. Microsoft did state that their assistant would continue to be built into future versions of Windows, and other Microsoft hardware products like the Surface Headphones.
