Amazon Invests $700 Million In Rivian
According to a new report, Amazon has invested $700 million in Rivian the Tesla competitor hoping to create the first all-electric pickup truck.
Rivian is a Michigan-based electric vehicle manufacturer founded in 2009 with the hope of building the worlds first electric pickup truck. Recently the company unveiled their upcoming R1T and R1S a Truck and SUV which both use the same power train and battery configuration.
The article by the New York Times states Amazon is excited for Rivian vision for the future.
“We’re inspired by Rivian’s vision for the future of electric transportation,” said Amazon chief executive for worldwide consumer Jeff Wilke in a statement. “R.J. has built an impressive organization, with a product portfolio and technology to match.”
Rivians R1T will start at around $69,000 USD ($91,628 CAD) while the R1S starts at $65,000 USD ($86,318 CAD). You can pre-order the vehicles now on Rivians website with a shipping date sometime in 2020.
